Unveiling the Campaign´s concept paper today that was approved by the Council of Ministers, Education Minister Dinanath Sharma said the present number of illiterate people in Nepal is four million and they all will be made literate within the next three years.[break]
He appealed to one and all to cooperate with the government to make the campaign successful.It is a matter of shame that Nepal is not free from illiteracy even in the 21st century, he said.
He warned that action will be taken against those government employees if an illiterate member is found in their family.
Similarly,the government is planning to end the provision of taking thumb print to draw elderly allowance, single woman allowance, or for banking and land transactions with a view to making all the people capable of making signature in all government and financial activities.
All from the public to political level should be literate, stressed the education minister.He urged the media to exert pressure on all state apparatus, political parties, civil society leaders, non government organizations, community organizations, teachers and students for their cooperation to make the campaign successful.
