BIRATNAGAR, Oct 25: The Regional Office of Food Technology and Quality Control (ROFTQ) of Biratnagar has dragged its feet in filing cases against companies manufacturing low quality and adulterated food, creating unnecessary delay in initiating legal action against the companies.

The office had initially sought the Office of District Attorney´s (ODA) legal assistance on nine cases against Baba Vegetable Industry, six cases against Bagmati Oil Industry, three cases against Swastik Oil Industry and 10 cases against biscuits and other food manufacturing companies.[break]

Based on the request, the ODA had prepared necessary documents and given a green signal to the ROFTQ to file cases against the companies that had flouted the government´s minimum food standard and tainted food items with inedible products.

However, the ROFTQ has not forwarded documents to the Chief District Officer (CDO) till date, saying that it was still looking into the matter.

The delay, however, has allowed the companies to continue manufacturing low quality and adulterated products.
