Golfers off to India

KATHMANDU, Nov 23: A four-member Nepali golf team left for India on Wednesday to participate in the SAARC Golf Championship. Members of Nepal Golfer Association bade farewell to the he team, which includes three players and a manager, at the Royal Nepal Golf Course.



Dipendra Rayamajhi, Ashish Pariyar and Bikash Bogati will participate in the four-day tournament slated for November 24-27 at Jaypur Rambag Golf Club in India. All of the players representing Nepal are amateur golfers. Dorje Tsiring Sherpa is the team manger. [break]



General Secretary of NGA Tashi Ghale said that the players participating in the tournament are ranked from 4th to 6th among the amateur players. “The top three amateur players-Tashi Tsering, Tashi Ghale and Sanjay Lama-had participated in many tournaments so we have decided to give chance to the new players,” said Ghale, adding “Pariyar and Bogati are in the NGA youth camp undergoing training for the 2014 Asian Games.”



Raymajhi said that they have been training for six months and hoped to perform well in the tournament. Backing Raymajhi, Pariyar said that they have the possibility of winning the tournament. Bogati thanked NGA for selecting youth players to participate in the tournament. “This is a good opportunity for us to develop our game.”







General Secretary Ghale said that the Nepali team´s target is to reach the final. All the South Asian Countries will be participating in the tournament except the Maldives. According to Ghale, Sri Lanka, India and Pakistan are the tough opponents for Nepal. The players will compete in the team event as well as individuals category.
