Golden Gate thrashed Revolvers 68-35 on Friday -- the second day of the tournament -- to claim the first position in pool A. Sushil Gurung contributed the highest 22 points for the winners who dominated all four quarters of the game 13-6, 16-8, 15-11 and 24-10. The runners-up of pool A, who will also enter the knockout round, will be decided after Sunday´s league match.
In pool B, Samakhushi Youth Club (SYC) edged out Norbu Linka Club 60-44 to secure berth in the knockout round. Although Norbu Linka won the first quarter 10-6, they were not able to keep the pace in the other three quarters as they lost 10-16, 14-18 and 10-20. The highest scorer of the match was Tenzing Namgyal of Norbu Linka with 13 points. However, Norbu Linka are at the bottom of the pool with two defeats from as many matches, thereby opening the door for the other two teams of the pool to enter the next round. Whitefield that defeated Norbu Linka on Thursday have also entered the next round.
In the third match, Trinity hammered Royals 68-37 with the help of Alex Tamang´s 19 points -- the highest score of the match. Royals lagged behind by a huge margin of 17-5, 16-7 and 20-8 in the first three quarters but made a comeback in the last quarter with 15-17 but that was not enough to secure victory. Trinity and Xavier International both have qualified for the next round from pool C as they remain at the top two positions in the pool.Unique are leading in pool D with their second victory on Friday. Unique defeated Pentagon 68-54 to become the likely contenders to enter the next round. Ravi Giri was the highest scorer of the match with 17 points. In another match of pool D, Baylor Boys disappointed the hosts GAA 57-42. Bishwesh Ghimire contributed the highest 14 points in the match for Baylor Boys. Pentagon and Baylor Boys both are trailing behind the leaders Unique while the hosts GAA have only mathematical chances of advancing into the next round if they defeat Pentagon in the next match.
The final matches of the league round will be held at the GAA Hall on Sunday.
