ITHARI, Aug 30: Nepali Congress Central Committee member Gagan Thapa has said that the parties represented in the High Level Political Committee (HLPC) must take the disgruntled parties into confidence even if changes need to be made in the electoral system to be adopted for the November Constituent Assembly polls.

Speaking to media persons in Itahari on Friday, Thapa, said, “The major parties should pave the way for participation of the disgruntled parties in the polls even by adopting fully proportional representation system of election for the upcoming polls.” He also claimed that party president Sushil Koirala was hopeful about Mohan Baidya led CPN-Maoist participating in the polls. Stating that late Girija Prasad Koirala had succeeded in bringing then Maoist rebels on board the election process, he said it would not be a difficult task to persuade the Mohan Baidya-led CPN-Maoist into participating in the polls.

Accusing the major parties of ignoring the existence of CPN-Maoist he claimed that it was not a judicious move not to include CPN-Maoist in HLPC. “The CPN-Maoist is disappointed as major decisions were taken without consulting the former,” he added.

“We should leave no stone unturned to bring CPN-Maoist into confidence,” insisted Thapa. He said the party´ should focus on holding meaningful CA polls.
