Sarita, along with 42 other child laborers, can now go back to school with the Ghorahi municipality and Janautthan Samajik Bikas Kendra (JSBK) deciding to chip in and finance their education.
The children were handed over to their parents along with school uniforms, shoes, stationery items and Rs 1000 in cash. These children were working in brick kilns, stone quarries and hotels. They were forced to work for a low wage.
Earlier, 24 child laborers had been returned to their homes with help from Himalayan Peace and Development Campaign. On Sunday, 19 more children were handed over to their families. The municipality aims to provide education to 60 child laborers in the municipality within this year.
“We aim to free 60 child laborers so that they can go to school once again,” said Subodh Regmi, social development officer at the municipality.
