Abhaya Subba Weise, Lead Singer of the band - Abhaya and the Steam Injuns came up with the idea almost 11 years ago when she found that many women singers in Nepal were hesitant to take up singing on stage as they had no idea how to find the right opportunity.
Initially performed as only an ‘experiment among six friends Sapna Thapa, Sheri Thapa, Vidhea Shrestha, Rachana Gurung Sharma and Abhaya with her band, the Steam Injuns backing them in 2003,’ the concert is now one among the highly anticipated yearly event.

The event is being put together by House of Innovation Pvt. Ltd. The practice sessions for the big gig started early March and by now the organizers claim that the participants “are ready to mesmerize Kathmandu.”
The event this year will have six different segments paying tribute to various genres the organizers are trying to emulate the Broadway musical this year.
One of the many attractions this year is Megan Titley a choreographer from the UK. Also the event will have The Steam Injuns along with a female saxophone player Kristin H Andresen, who will be backing the many new singers this year.
Suseal Gurung will be on percussions and Sailesh Shrestha will work on computers for the contemporary section.
The Women in Concert this year will see Anupa Magar, Garima Gurung Shah, Raksha Limbu, Tenzin Hyolmo, Bartika Rai, Shreya Sotang, Suzeeta, Sujata Rana Thakuri, Rashmi Singh, Shristy Lama, Rubeena Gurung, Paramita Rana perform on stage.
The show will close with a medley of Nepali songs as the grad finale.
