KATHMANDU, April 7: The ongoing nationwide shutdown enforced by Unified CPN (Maoist)-led 30-party alliance has adversely affected normal life in the capital city today.

The passengers who entered the capital city of Kathmandu by night bus have been stranded for no availability of vehicles including taxis on the local route. A large number of passengers are visibly stranded in major thoroughfares in Kalanki, Balkhu, Koteswor, Gaushala, Satdobato, Chakrapath and Chawahil, among others, for not getting vehicles to reach their destination.

Especially the passengers carrying baggage and kids are reportedly facing tough time managing the things on road.

Vehicular movement on the road is seen very low after the shutdown enforcers had set a taxi alight in Koteswor area this morning.

A big number of security personnel has been mobilized on the road to check any possible untoward incidents including vandalism and maintain law and order during the general strike.

Police have so far arrested 15 shutdown enforcers from different place sof Kathmandu Valley on charge of their involvement in violent activities, said Metropolitan Police Commissioner's Office.

However, the general strike has no effect in Mahendranagar Bazaar of Kanchanpur when it has gripped the entire country.

The Mahendranagar, Gaddachauki and Brahmadev Bazaar of Kanchanpur have remained open on the first day of the three-day general strike enforced by the Maoists today. RSS
