Inaugurating the fourth meeting of Sagarmatha Tourism Coordination Forum (STCF) under the Sagarmatha National Park Buffer Zone Management Committee (SNPBZMC), Minister Bohara proposed a program of rewarding mountaineering expeditions that bring back largest volume of garbage from Everest. [break]
Sonam Gyaljen Sherpa, president of STCF, emphasized on proper utilization of revenue generated in Sagarmatha region for infrastructural development in Khumbu region. “We need make clear policy for effective sharing of revenue. The policy should clearly state who should get what and by performing what responsibility,” he said. He also claimed that public participation in SNP buffer zone management is exemplary as compared to other buffer zones management committees across the country.
Prachanda Man Shrestha, chief executive officer of Nepal Tourism Board, emphasized on capacity enhancement in the buffer zone. He said tourists visiting the Sagarmatha region can be doubled form existing 30,000 a year by capacity building.
Sita Ram Sapkota, president of Trekking Agencies´ Association of Nepal (TAAN), suggested implementing a provision of taking a single liaison officer instead of many liaison officers from different government agencies to facilitate varied activities in the mountain areas.
