“All local bodies staff will return to work from Monday,” Mahesh Kafle, the secretariat chief at Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) told myrepublica.com. “Garbage collection will resume across the country from tomorrow.”
All 75 District Development Committees (DDCs), 58 Municipalities and 3915 Village Development Committees (VDCs) were shut for 13 consecutive days due to the strike.
In the capital alone, over 5,000 tons of garbage has piled up over the last two weeks.

As per the agreement, the government will promote all temporary local body employees (appointed before July 15, 2008). Besides, the government will also introduce Local Development Services Act and implement all agreements within three weeks. The government had reached agreement on the same issues with the local body employees earlier.
“As per the agreement, local development, finance and law ministry will have to table our demands in the cabinet meeting within three days,” Hari Kumar Shrestha, president of Local Body Employee Association told myrepublica.com. “The cabinet is supposed to meet our demands within 13 days. We would launch another round of protests if our demands are not met within 21 days.”
