KATHMANDU: Indian diplomat and renowned writer Gopal Krishna Gandhi on Tuesday expressed serious concerns over "power brokering" and declining statesmanship in South Asia.

Addressing a public lecture jointly organized by Alliance for Social Dialogue and Himal Association in the capital, Gandhi, who is also the grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, said the trend has posed a threat of possible leadership deficit in the region. He said South Asia is in need of leaders who can come out of parliament and fight for the cause of the people.[break]

Gandhi said, “We have a leadership deficit.”

Great leaders like Aung San Suu Kyi, BP Koirala and Nelson Mandela became leaders for their struggles, he said. The lecture was attended by professors, journalists, civil society members, rights activists and students.
