Gachchhadar says people's faith on police increases

KATHMANDU, Feb. 16: Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadar has said that people´s trust on the police force has increased notably.



He explained that people´s confidence on the police has increased due to the significant vigour with which the police force has worked in ensuring the life and property of the people and maintaining law and order during the 18 months of his term in office.[break]



The Home Minister said this while addressing a news conference at his office in Singha Durbar on Saturday. The Ministry of Home Affairs held the news conference to provide information on the progress of its work in the last 18 months, and on the peace and security situation.



On the occasion, Deputy Prime Minister Gachchhadar reiterated that his entire term in office was spent on institutionalizing the method and the system.



He maintained that the National Security Act, the Ten-year Long-term Vision of the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Security Service Commission Act have been formulated and the awareness campaign on violence and crime has been launched in the 18 months of his term.



The Home Minister opined that maintaining the law and order has become even more challenging due to the different underground outfits and their activities, the plethora of ethnic, regional and communal organizations and their activities, organised crime, hooliganism, abductions and ransom, extortions, the syndicate system in transport and the rmpnt exploitation of the natural resources.



Home Secretary Nabin Ghimire informed the media that the Ministry had carried out 58 different activities in the last 18 months. He mentioned the formulation of the criteria for the transfer of personnel in the Nepal Police, the Regulation to Amend the Police Act, determination of the order of precedence, the ten-year master plan of the District Administration Offices, among others in this connection.



Sixty-one thousand personnel of Nepal Police are currently mobilized for maintaining the law and order and providing security. This means that one police personnel has to provide security to 660 citizens.
