BIRATNAGAR, April 19: Deputy Prime Minister Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadar on Monday said it would be better to go for fresh election if the new constitution is not promulgated within the stipulated deadline of May 28.

Talking to media in Biratnagar Airport, he said fresh election will be the best alternative to adhere to the democratic norms and values.

"We should not extend the terms of Constituent Assembly," he said. "It would be better to announce fresh election if we believe in democracy."

Gachchhadar, who is also Chairman of Madhesi People´s Rights Forum-Democratic (MPRF-D), said there is no ground for extending the CA tenure. "We should accomplish the draft of constitution within the set deadline," he said, adding: "Else we should go for election."

He said that his party is ready to go for fresh election. Gachchhadar, however, added that there is still a possibility to draft new constitution within the set deadline if the three major parties -- Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and the Maoist -- become serious about the issue.
