Four jailed for embezzling Rs 35.65 million

CHITWAN : Four individuals, who were among those arrested for allegedly embezzling Rs 35.65 million belonging to Palung Savings and Credit Cooperative, were sent to jail, while two other accused were granted bail on Sunday.



The verdict was issued by the Makawanpur District Court. The district judge ordered the police to put Surendra Basnet, treasurer of the cooperative, and three others--Sarita Basnet, Binita Malla and Ram Dhoj KC--in custody for further investigation.[break]



A complaint was registered against 20 individuals for misappropriating Rs 35.65 million at the cooperative. Fourteen other accused, including the cooperative´s chairman, are still at large. Police filed the case against them after more than 1,000 members of the cooperative filed a written complaint against them.
