The leaders also argued that the Nepal has not been able to accomplish its national objectives due to divergent views on the issue of national interest both within and outside the parties.[break]
“We [political parties] should form a single view on the issue of national interests, especially with respect to China and India which are our close neighbors,” said UCPN (Maoist) Vice-Chairman Dr Baburam Bhattarai, while speaking at a function held to release the Rato Jhilko, a quarterly magazine edited by his daughter Manushi Yami Bhattarai.
He argued that democracy and national identity are two sides of the same coin, and stated that Nepal has constantly been under foreign domination.
Nepali Congress leader Chakra Prasad Banstola said that the parties are engaged in the classical debate on the issue of national identity, while Nepali political parities should long have forged a stable foreign policy suitable to the existing geo-political situation.
“We should not forget the ground reality,” he added.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affair Upendra Yadav claimed that the Nepali political parties have been victimized by “slavish mentality”.
