Footballer Gurung honored

POKHARA, April 20: Kaski District Football Association (KDFA) on Saturday honored footballer Bijay Gurung with the Kaski Player of the Year award for his contributions to Nepali football.



Gurung, the winger of the national team who plays professional football from Three Star Club, received a cash prize of Rs 25,000 and a felicitation letter. [break]



Three players of Kaski -- Anil Gurung, Anil Ojha and Bijay Gurung -- were in contention for the award. But Bijay won the award as he received the highest number of votes from clubs affiliated to KDFA.



According to KDFA President Khem Bahadur Gurung, 16 of the 25 local clubs of Kaski voted for Bijay.



KDFA also honored journalist Narayan Karki during the same function for his contribution to football through journalism. Kari received Rs 15,000 and a letter of appreciation. Nepal Army´s Western Division Commander, Major General Yagya Bikram Rana, gave away the awards.



Meanwhile, making public its income and expenditure during the Safal Pokhara Cup, KDFA informed that it had made a profit of Rs 978,851 from the tournament.
