FNCCI Mechi chief briefly detained

JHAPA, Nov 26: Police on Monday briefly arrested Bijaya Dalmiya, the Mechi chapter president of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), for allegedly interferring in police work.



Police said they had taken Dalmiya into custody for his own safety. [break]



Dalmiya allegdly interrupted the police when they were frisking a local carrying betel nuts on his cycle. Dalmiya had told the police to let go the cyclist. After short altercation between the police and Dalmiya, a crowd had already gahtered.



According to police, they had to use force to disperse the locals who had gathered to observe a minor dispute between them and Dalmiya.



Dalmiya was released after three hours in detention.
