FNCCI flays politicization of labor unions

KATHMANDU, Sept 4: Industrialists on Sunday flayed increasing politicization of labor unions in the country.



Speaking at an interaction organized by the Society of Economic Journalists-Nepal (SEJON), officials of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) expressed dissatisfaction over politically-motivated trade union activities.[break]



He also said the government must ensure security of industrial enterprises as well as the industrialists.



“Increasing politicization of labor activities has disturbed harmonious relation between workers and employers,” said Bhaskar Raj Rajkarnikar, senior vice-president of FNCCI.

Presenting a working paper on ´Current Issues of the Economy and FNCCI Initiatives´, FNCCI President Suraj Vaidya said national development won´t be possible in the absence of economic development. “The government should prioritize economic issues,” he said.



Vaidya also said the FNCCI was strengthening the FNCCI Secretariat and enhancing its relation with the government.



“We have been trying to build consensus among major political parties on economic agendas. Once these agendas are recognized by political parties, they will become national political agenda,” he added.



Vaidya also suggested the government to focus on realistic economic activities. He bemoaned Nepal´s inability to reap economic benefits from its neighboring countries.
