Koirala also urged revenue officials to mend their image by upholding high moral integrity. "I request you to start good conduct without waiting instructions from your seniors. You should perform your responsibility in line with the budget and revenue policy of the government,” added Koirala.
The government has set a target of collecting revenue worth Rs 354.5 billion in the current fiscal year.
Koirala also expressed willingness to arrange additional incentives to revenue staffs but cautioned that he would show zero tolerance to revenue evasion.
He also urged the participating officials to narrow down the gap between potentiality and actual mobilization of revenue by bringing additional sectors into tax net.
“In line with the policy taken by the current budget, your focus should be on expanding the tax net rather than raising tax rates,” he added.
On the occasion, Finance Secretary Shanta Raj Subedi said additional 1.4 million tax payers should be brought into tax net to increase revenue mobilization.
Rajan Khanal, chief of Revenue Division at the Ministry of Finance, urged tax payers not to evade tax as it is inevitable like death.
Likewise, Tanka Mani Sharma, director general of Inland Revenue Department, said the entry of officials not familiar with the revenue system has affected revenue mobilization.
