The price of big tomato, small tomato, carrot, French bean, green soybean, smooth gourd, round brinjal, spinach and mustard leaf have come down in range of Rs 2 to Rs 20 per kg over the past week, according to wholesalers at Kalimati fruits and vegetables market.[break]
Pointed gourd, however, have become dearer due to low supplies from India.
Binaya Shrestha, senior planning officer at Kalimati Fruits and Vegetables Market Development Board, said the price of locally grown vegetables has come down due to improved supplies amid rise in production. “Mushroom, capsicum and pointed gourd have become dearer as their demand grows during major festivals,” Shrestha added.
Major rise has been recorded in prices of dry garlic. While the price of Chinese dry garlic has increased by Rs 8 per kg, local dry garlic has become dearer by Rs 10 per kg.

“The price of garlic has been increasing continuously over the past few weeks due to drop in production,” Shrestha said, adding that garlic has become dearer by almost 40 percent as compared to prices recorded during last year´s Tihar festival.
“Garlic will continue to become dearer in future as well. We are already seeing low supplies of garlic in the market,” he added.
Around 500 tons of vegetables enter the Kalimati market every day from neighboring districts. Daily demand during major festivals like Dashain and Tihar hovers around 800 tons, according to vegetable wholesalers.
