KATHMANDU, Dec 12: Scheduled flights to airports in eastern region have resumed from Wednesday after three days of disturbance due to bad weather.

Poor visibility forced airlines to suspend more than two dozen flights a day over the past three days.

“Scheduled flight operations resumed in the eastern region after three straight days of disturbances," an official at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) told Republica. “However, flights to Tumlingtar could not take off on the day due to dense fog.”[break]

Rupesh Joshi, executive manager of Buddha Air, said the airline on the day operated all its scheduled flights to the eastern region, except to Tumlingtar.

Poor weather forced airlines to cancel more than 70 flights over the past three days.

This had left more than 3,000 passengers stranded at different airports in Kathmandu, Biratnagar, Bhadrapur, Janakpur and Tumlingtar.

Companies said the cancellations caused them a heavy loss in revenue. Going by the cancellation policy, airlines need to arrange the next ticket to the passengers or provide them full refund in case of flight cancellation.
