KATHMANDU, Nov 1: At least five Maoist lawmakers were injured when the police baton-charged them at the southern gate of Singha Durbar on Sunday. The lawmakers were picking the Singha Durbar gate, which is a prohibited zone, demanding relief packages for flood victims in the Western Nepal. The injured are Krishna Kumar Chaudhary, Lekh Raj Bhatta, Tekendra Bhatta, Hari Shirpali, Hari Lal Thapa Magar.

Thapa Magar sustained injuries in the head and former minister Lekh Raj Bhatta in left hand. They received treatment at Model Hospital and Bir Hospital, police said in a statement. Police also arrested five lawmakers and released them shortly.

Police claimed they did not baton-charge the lawmakers, and they received minor injuries when they hit the police barricades.

But the Maoist claimed that the police mercilessly baton-charged them even though they were peacefully staging a sit-in.
