A meeting of FDRA held at the official residence of the Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai in Baluwatar on Friday decided that district level committees would be headed by local leaders of the alliance either on seniority or rotational basis. [break]
Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal is the coordinator at the central level.
“District chiefs of the parties in the alliance will decide who should head the district level committees," said Dan Bahadur Chaudhari, leader of the Tarai Madhes Democratic Nepal. There are 21 parties in FDRA.
While the opposition parties have announced anti-government march in Kathmandu for January 29, FDRA has announced an “awareness march” for January 30. However, FDRA leaders denied that it was aimed at countering the opposition parties´ protest.
"We are only organizing an awareness march to inform the people and the international community about our views. We do not aim to counter the opposition parties," added Chaudhary. He said the FDRA secretariat would form various committees and sub-committees to make the march a success.
The decision of the ruling FDRA comes three days after the opposition alliance, including the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML, announced 20-day protest programs against the Baburam Bhattarai-led government. The opposition parties have announced anti-government protests starting Jan 19.
