KATHMANDU, Feb 12: Everyone needs some time alone, away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. It’s vital that we take care of our emotional and physical well being which taking some time out for ourselves will do. Getting a good amount of ‘me-time’ means coming back refreshed, particularly if you’ve been feeling stressed.
Whether it’s a weekend off or a couple of minutes in a day, we should all get in the habit of enjoying the much needed ‘me-time’. Here, we talked to four young individuals about the importance of some time alone and how they like to spend it.
Nishma Dahal, 22I think the concept of ‘me-time’ is very important, especially since life has become so busy. Another reason why I believe it’s important is because of how easily we are influenced these days. Each of us should take out time for ourselves to reflect and introspect. Since I recently completed my undergraduate studies, I have plenty of free time at the moment and I’m enjoying it. Now I get to spend as much time as I want on doing things that make me feel relaxed and happy. My ‘me-time’ usually consists of reading light novels, indulging on chocolates and coffee. I also love sleeping. Another thing that I do to relax is jot down my thoughts in my diary. My family has always been great at giving me space so I can enjoy my time without any interruptions.

When I was working, I was so busy that I hardly had any time to relax or invest on myself. I believe it was two years back (when I was still working) that I got the luxury of having some ‘me-time’. Now that I’m on a work break, I can choose to enjoy time on my own as much as I want to. Every time that I spend on myself I come back feeling refreshed. For busy people, like I used to be, it could also be the time to connect with family members. These days, you can catch me listening to a medley of classic old songs while I enjoy time on my own.

Photography and traveling are what I enjoy doing the most so any moment that I can take some time off, I indulge in these hobbies. As I’m an entrepreneur, I don’t get a lot of free time but I try to take a few minutes each morning to recharge for the day. I usually look at photography tips online as well as information on new places to explore. ‘Me-time’ is essential for me because I want to escape the daily grind of work.
Sadikshya Shrestha, 18
My idea of ‘me-time’ involves interacting with other people. I know it’s good to take some quality time out for yourself but I like to spend mine with other people. I’m usually on the phone with my friends or on social media, checking to see what’s happening. My family doesn’t like to leave me alone too much. I guess it’s because they probably feel that kids these days fall into depression if they spend too much time by themselves. I usually end up catching up on my sleep if I’m alone.
