A press release from REP quoted Dr N Chaulagain, Executive Director of Alternative Energy Promotion Center, as saying that all equipment will be installed within February 2010.
Dr Alexander Spachis, the visiting EU Head of Delegation to Nepal, said at a function that the project would contribute to “reviving the economic activities in the rural areas, which has been severely damaged during a decade long armed conflict.” He explained that EU development aid is in line with the Nepal Government´s strategy as defined in the Agenda of Priority Reform Actions and the Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper (PRSP) / 10th Five Year Plan (2002-2007), which address Nepal´s foremost objective of poverty reduction.
EU support started with Rs 2.6 million to livestock project in 1977. It has now reached up to Rs 100 million for the period 2007-2013. Areas of EU support ranges from social sector (education, health) to natural resources exploitation (energy and environment), economic and trade development. Recently, the EU has extended support to include peace building, food security, and climate change.
