ILAM, July 22: Leader of the Nepali Congress, Gagan Thapa, has said that elections were not possible unless there was consensus among political parties.

Speaking at a programme organized in Ilam on Sunday, Thapa said that there was no possibility of elections on November 22 at any cost unless consensus was forged among political parties even though there was no alternative to going for fresh mandate in the context that the Constituent Assembly (CA) was dissolved.[break]

He said that political parties have been losing the confidence of the people as they could not write constitution in four years, and added that reinstatement of the CA was only a day-dream.

Thapa further said that the CA was dissolved as consensus was not forged on federalism and restructuring.

He said the date of the elections should be announced by determining common way among political parties.

On another note, saying that federalism should not be based on ethnic grounds, Thapa added that problems would be created while making federalism based on ethnicity.
