Election fever grips journos

KATHMANDU, April 30: Election fever has gripped media fraternity with journalists filing their candidacies for various posts in the central executive body of the Federation of Nepali Journalists on Saturday.



Journalists Kedar Koirala, Chandra Dev Kamati, Dambar Giri, Poshan KC and Shiva Gaune have filed their candidacies for the post of chairman. Yashoda Timsina, Ramesh Bista and Bijay Kumar Barma are contenders for the post of vice-chairman while Om Sharma, Deepak Pathak and Ramji Dahal are vying for the post of general secretary.[break]



Likewise, Chandraman Shrestha, Jagat Nepal, Tilak Koirala, Dineshwar Prasad Gupta and Ram Prasad Dahal have fielded their candidacies. Ujir Magar, Gajendra Budhathoki, Narayan Amrit, Birman Sherpa, Brij Kumar Yadav and Shital Sah are contending for the post of treasurer.



Members will be elected under various quotas including three representatives from women, two each from dailts, indigenous/ethnic communities, Madhesi, corporate houses and associate organizations and one each from five development regions.



Ujir Magar, Kiran Chapagain, Ujjawal Acharya and Govind Pariyar from the Nepal Republic Media are in the fray for the post of treasurer, member from corporate houses, associate organizations and dalit quota respectively. The vote is scheduled for May 4.
