According to the District Police Office, Kaila Bhul,65, of Hikila VDC was buried while she was sleeping at a cowshed in Dolasain village of Hikila VDC-2. Six goats, two buffalos and an ox also perished under the rubbles. [break]
Meanwhile the incessant rainfall, which started from Monday evening, has swelled many rivers, blocking numerous road sections in the district.
The drastic rise in the water level of the Mahakali River in Khalanga, the district headquarters, has spread fear among the locals, who were trying to come to terms with a massive flooding a few weeks back.
The river water has deluged the road section that connects Bangabagad village to Khalanga VDC-5.
At Dhuligada VDC-9, the local Nogan River breached its banksand swept away Naugadeshowre Primary School and a suspension bridge which connected Sipti VDC-1 and Dhuligada, said a local, Mangal Singh Thagunna.
“The flooding has also swept away my shop in Dhuligada,” he further added.
The suspension bridges built over Tusarpani village of Sunsera VDC-9 and at Sunsera VDC-3 have also been washed away.
According to another local, Prem Singh Dhami, the flooding has damaged 32 sets of pipes, three water reservoirs, electric turbines and electric poles in various areas of Sunsera VDC.
“More than 26 houses in Sina village of Sunsera VDC-9 are on the verge of destruction,” said Dhami.
Likewise, the flooding of Rithing river has displaced six families in Tusarpani village of Sunsera VDC.
Darchula´s Disaster Management Committee has estimated a property loss of around Rs 70 million.
