EC has made the request to JSC and JC through the Ministry of Law and Justice this week. Election Commissioner Dolakh Bahadur Gurung told Republica that the EC will have the name lists by September 5 or 6.
“We will train them [chief returning officers and returning officers] by mid-September,” he added. [break]
Gurung said that they will field the chief returning officers and returning officers from September 17.
According to sources, JSC and JC could not provide the name list of chief district judges among others as Acting Chief Justice Damodar Prasad Sharma is on a week-long visit to South Africa.
EC appoints one chief district judge as the chief returning officer in each district while additional district judges and under secretary level officials from judicial services are appointed as returning officers for first-past-the-post (FPTP) electoral system.
The chief returning officers and returning officers oversee all election related activities in the election constituencies.
Meanwhile, EC has decided to conduct a two-day regional trainer´s training on voter education and economic and logistics management starting Sunday.
“We will conduct the training in 10 clusters across the country,” said Gurung, adding, “It will be conducted on Sunday and Monday in some clusters while it will be conducted on Tuesday and Wednesday in other clusters.”
The regional trainers will later train others on election issues, he stated.
