During the meeting, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Bhoj Raj Pokharel said filing of candidacies for the by-elections will be take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on March 14 at the district election offices concerned. People can file complaints the next day against any of the candidates made public by the EC.
Pokharel said the EC will issue the list of election candidates on March 17 after conducting investigations against the complaints, and political parties wishing to withdraw the names of their candidates can do so on March 18. The final list of candidates contesting the by-elections and their election symbols will be made public on March 19.
All political parties contesting the by-elections will be allowed to run their election campaigns till 12 pm on April 7.
The EC is holding by-elections in constituencies no. 5 and 7 in Morang district, no. 5 in Dhanusha, no.1 in Kaski, no.2 in Rolpa and no. 4 number in Kanchanpur. These constituencies have fallen vacant for various reasons.
At the meeting today, Chief Election Commissioner Pokharel asked all the parties to strictly abide by the Election Code of Conduct. He also informed that the EC will use electronic voting machine in all the constituencies during the by-elections.
