KATHMANDU, Feb 5: The Department of Revenue Investigation (DRI) has swooped down on Nepal Recreation Center (NRC), the operator of eight casinos in the country, on charges of not clearing due royalties and flouting tax law.

In this connection, the Department last week summoned Kiran Shrestha, representative of the Nepal Recreation Center (NRC), to record statements on behalf of the company.

The DRI’s investigation shows the Center has not cleared royalties worth Rs 120 for the last three years. “Still worse is the Center has not deducted tax at source while paying salary to the staff, which is a serious flouting of the tax law,” a senior official at the Department told myrepublica.com.

Its investigation report says the company has evaded taxes worth Rs 50 million by not complying with the TDS provision.
