Dr KC, a senior professor at the Institute of Medicine (IoM), who just ended his 14- day fast-unto-death on Sunday following an 11-point deal with the government, has asked the concerned authorities to endorse the deal and form a health professional education commission before 4 pm, Friday."Otherwise I will be compelled to go on another hunger strike," Dr KC told Republica. Dr KC has also asked the government to ensure implementation of other agreements like fixing the ceiling for MBBS fees as recommended by the Mathema task force report and to gradually decrease the seats of MBBS.
As per the deal signed between the government and Dr KC, the government was supposed to endorse the deal and should have formed a health professional education commission by the previous cabinet meeting. But, instead of forming the commission, the meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Monday entrusted the cabinet's Social Affairs Committee to look into the matter of forming the commission.
Dr KC, who has already staged hunger strike six times in a bid to reform the medical education sector, has urged the public to pressurize the government to implement the past accords and to continue support for his just cause.
