KATHMANDU, Aug 18: Dr Govinda KC, who had been on fast-unto-death demanding merit- and seniority-based appointments at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH), ended his hunger strike Saturday after TU appointed Dr Prakash Sayami as the new dean of the Institute of Medicine (IoM).
KC, who heads the orthopaedic department at the Maharajgunj-based TUTH, ended his strike taking juice. He had started his fast-unto-death last Monday. Early in the day, Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai had directed officials to settle the dispute about appointment of the new dean at the IoM, at the earliest. [break]
