KATHMANDU, Sept 22: The government has remained reluctant to reach out to Dr Govinda KC and start dialogue to end his fast-unto-death which entered the fourth day on Tuesday. Dr KC is on hunger strike for the seventh time at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) expressing his dissatisfaction over the non-implementation of the Mathema report.

Dr KC's assistant Badri Aryal said that no government official or political leaders came to the TUTH to visit him on the day. A medical team which has been observing Dr KC's health condition has administered normal saline to him."He was suffering from fever yesterday [Monday] which is slightly down today. But his overall health condition is not good," Aryal said.

Dr KC had ended his sixth hunger strike on the 14th day on September 5 after signing an 11-point agreement with the government. But he decided to start new hunger strike after the government seemed least concerned about implementing the Mathema report that recommends major reforms in the medical education sector.

Dr KC says he wants to ensure access to quality health services for the poor as well as access of the poor and middle class Nepalis to medical education.
