A meeting of the NC Parliamentary Party Board held at Singha Durbar issued the directive in the wake of criticism from various quarters as the participation of NC lawmakers is very sparse in the thematic committee meetings. The PPB meeting concluded that the NC had failed to incorporate its stances in the draft of the CA Committees.
The NC´s directive comes three days after the UCPN (Maoist) made a similar decision to restrict party leaders from making foreign trips without due permission.
According to NC PP spokesperson Nabindra Raj Joshi, the meeting also decided to ask the party´s lawmakers to officially inform the party before making foreign trips. Frequent foreign visits have been seen as one of the main reasons behind low attendance of NC lawmakers in the thematic committee meetings.
Joshi said the meeting also dwelled on the issues of differences among various political parties, mainly between the UCPN (Maoist) and the NC, in the thematic committees. “The PPB meeting also decided to maintain maximum flexibility for resolving disputes,” said Joshi.
Among other things, the PPB meeting also decided to bring a proposal to ask all 114 lawmakers to donate Rs 1,200 each to provide relief to the people affected by floods and landslides in western Nepal. The amount totals to over Rs 136,000.
