KATHMANDU, Aug 15: Expressing solidarity with Dr Govinda KC´s hunger strike, the Faculty Doctors’ Association of the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) has halted OPD services at the hospital on Wednesday.

Dr Govinda KC had begun hunger strike on the hospital premises since Monday, demanding the appointment of Dean at TUTH on the basis of seniority and eligibility, instead of making a political appointment. [break]

Except the emergency and indoor service, all the services have been obstructed in the hospital.

The doctors have halted the services protesting the unilateral appointment of the new acting dean by TU Vice Chancellor Hira Bahadur Maharjan ignoring the demand raised by Dr KC.

VC Maharajn had appointed Dharmakant Banskota as acting Dean at the TUTH on Tuesday going against the decision of the TU executive council meeting which had decided to form a committee in order to recommend names for the post.
