Displaced Dailekh journos return to district

SURKHET, Jan 29: The displaced Dailekh-based journalists, who earlier fled to Surkhet after their lives were threatened by UCPN (Maoist) cadres, have returned to the district on Tuesday.



Mid-Western Regional Administrator Sharada Prasad Trital, Mid-Western Regional Police Office chief DIG Tapendra Dhoj Hamal, Chairman of Federation of Nepali Journalists Shiva Gaule, among others, accompanied the displaced journalists home.[break]



They decided to return to the district following a three-point commitment made by the regional administration office ensuring safety and security for the journalists.



On January 26, the displaced journalists had staged hunger strike in front of the Mid-Western Regional Administration Office demanding their safe rehabilitation and return to work.



Earlier on January 24, twenty-two journalists had fled the district and arrived in Surkhet following death threats issued by cadres of UCPN (Maoist).
