Disasters claim 322 lives in six months

From April 13 to October 21, these incidents left 1,221 people injured and 32 others missing, as reported by the Nepal Police.

KATHMANDU, Oct 22: A total of 4,407 natural and human-induced disasters have wreaked havoc across the country over the past six months, resulting in 322 deaths.



From April 13 to October 21, these incidents left 1,221 people injured and 32 others missing, as reported by the Nepal Police.

Police statistics indicate that various disasters directly impacted 59,694 households nationwide.


Snakebites have been identified as the leading cause of death, with 90 fatalities reported from 511 snakebite incidents in six months. Similarly, 67 people lost their lives in landslides.


In terms of both the number of incidents and the number of affected families, fire emerged as the most devastating disaster, with 1,476 fire-related incidents affecting over 51,000 families and resulting in 25 deaths.
