Dhital wins six gold medals on first day

KATHMANDU, June 16: Shreya Dhital won six gold medals on the opening day of the 16th National Open and Age-group Swimming Championship on Thursday. Dhital won three gold medals in open category and added three more from age-group at the Satdobato Swimming Pool, Lalitpur.



Dhital clocked 1 minute 35.03 seconds to complete 100 meters backstroke in open category to claim gold. She clocked 36 seconds for 50 meters butterfly and 1 minute 15 seconds for 100 meters freestyle. [break]



She won gold in both events of open category of women. Likewise, Dhital won gold in 50 meters freestyle, 50 meters breaststroke and 50 meter backstroke in U-17 girls´ age group. She clocked 33.94 seconds, 47.56 seconds and 42.78 seconds respectively in the 50 meters event of freestyle, breaststroke and backstroke.



Olympian Prasiddha Jung Shah won two gold medals in men´s open section in the tournament organized by Nepal Swimming Association recognized by National Sports Council (NSC). Shah won gold in 50 meters butterfly and 50 meters freestyle clocking 31.47 seconds and 27.81 seconds respectively. In men´s 100 meters breaststroke of open category, Banin Shensha Shrestha clocked 1 minute 20.53 seconds to win gold.



In boys´ U-12 age-group, Shishir Thapa stood first in 50 meters freestyle and 50 meters backstroke.



Likewise, Prabesh Adhikari won first position in 50 meters breaststroke of boys´ U-14 age-group with a timing of 36.35 seconds. Sabbu Bista clinched gold in 50 meter breaststroke in girls´ U-10 section.



Sonira Bista remained on top in 50 meter breaststroke of girls´ U-12.
