Hundreds of students from various campuses demonstrated in the town chanting slogans against the police´s weak security and demanded stern action against those involved in the murderer. [break]
The protest turned violent and baton wielding police charged the demonstrators to disperse them. The students pelted stones at the police in retaliation.
At least two people were injured in the clashes and both were admitted to Seti Zonal Hospital for treatments.
According to the students, their colleague Om Prakash Panta died because the police did not show seriousness to protect him.
Panta, who was found dead on Tuesday morning with his throat slit, had left his house in Dhangadi on Monday evening. He had told his parents that his life was in danger.
“I called the police that night seeking help but they instead mistreated," complained Panta´s sister.
Police said they were investigating the murder and formed a probe committee. The students have however, warned of more stringent protests if the murderer was not brought to justice soon.
