Demonstration to press for Basnet's arrest

BIRATNAGAR, June 26: The Morang chapter of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) is staging demonstration on June 29 in various districts across the eastern region, protesting the government apathy to nab Parshuram Basnet, the prime accused in the murderous attack on Republica scribe Khila Nath Dhakal.



The FNJ Morang during its office bearers’ meeting on Sunday decided to organize the demonstration, which will be participated by journalists, rights activists, civil society members and professional from various walks of life. [break]



According to the FNJ Morang, the FNJ central members along with presidents of Press Chautari, Press Union and Revolutionary Journalists’ Association affiliated to the CPN UML, Nepali Congress and UCPN (Maoist) respectively will participate in the demonstration.



The FJN Morang has also constituted a seven-member committee to coordinate with legal experts on proceeding with the case filed against Basnet for ordering the attack that happened on the night of June 5.



Police have arrested Rohit Koirala and Manoj Rai in connection with the incident, while the mastermind Basnet is still absconding.
