Delay in addressing Madesh problems will push country into further crisis: Dr Bhattarai

KATHMANDU, Dec 3: Former Prime Minister and coordinator of his self proclaimed new force campaign, Dr Baburam Bhattarai, has said the country's crisis would deepen further if the issues of Tarai Madhes were not addressed immediately.

Addressing a civic solidarity assembly organised by National Agitation Joint Organising Committee here Thursday, former Prime Minister Dr Bhattarai said the Madhes unrest be cooled down on time. He called on India to immediately lift its blockade on Nepal and agitating United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) to not halt the supply of medicines.Former Speaker Damannath Dhungana insisted on the rewriting of the constitution with the consent of all to address the Madhes problems.

Nepal Sadbhawana Party co chair Laxman Lal Karna said any community being deprived of political rights in the new constitution would never get their other rights guaranteed and that's why Tarai Madhesh has to be agitated.

Human Rights Activist Padma Ratna Tuladhar said the government has been unsuccessful in addressing the Tarai Madhes problem going on for the past three months.

Political analyst Krishna Khanal stressed the need of sorting out problems facing the country through dialogue.

Legislature-Parliament Legislation Committee President Ganga Chaudhary, Dalit rights activist Dan Bahadur Bishwakar, political analyst CK Lal, Sanghiya Limbuwan Party Vice Chair Indra Shrestha, Joint Muslims Alliance Samimamiya Ansari and Tharukat Party Chair Bhanuram Tharu called for addressing the demands of Madhes, ethnic community and Dalits.
