LADNIYA, India, Jan 30: Former parliamentarians and leaders from Indian political parties have been convening debates on the Madhesh movement of Nepal in Uttar Pradesh (UP) and Bihar.

The Indian leaders are organizing the campaign in the bordering towns of India in parallel with the Madhes agitation and obstruction in border check points by the disgruntled Madhes-based political parties since the promulgation of the new constitution in last September.

Those involved in the debates said such events were organized in the bordering towns of India with a view to support the ongoing Madhesh movement.

Locals from the towns of UP and Bihar, leaders from political parties, Madhesi leaders and other activists involved in the movement participate in these debates.

India-Nepal Goodwill Committee and India-Nepal Friendship Dialouge Journey have been formed along the border with the slogan: "Forthe purpose of strengthening Madhesh movement".

Central Vice-chair of Rastriya Janta Dal (RJD) of India Raghubangsh Prasad Singh and senior leaders of Socialist Party Devendra Yadav and Pappu Yadav have been leading the campaign.

In their speech, the Indian leaders explain that the major objective of these campaigns is to help the Madhesh movement reach a new height.

"The state authorities of Nepal have been trying to suppress the Madhesh movement by firing bullets on Madhesi people instead of addressing their demands. This is not acceptable," Devendra Yadav said in his speech in the Indian town of Jaynagar on January 18. "Our hearts ache as we see Madhesi peoples being oppressed."

Stating that the government of Nepal has been treating the Madheshi people as non-Nepalis, Yadav urged the Indian government to take initiatives to protect the rights of the Madhesi people in Nepal.

Raghubangsha Singh, while addressing a rally in the Indian town of Laukaha, accused the Nepali authorities of inhumanely suppressing the peaceful protests in Madhesh.

"We support those who are fired at just for seeking their rights," said Singh.

Jagat Yadav, leader of CPN-Maoist (Matrika group), said the campaigns taking place in the Indian towns were aimed at piling pressure on the Nepali authorities for addressing the demands of the Madhesi people.

He said they want to raise awareness among the people of Bihar and UP and to press the Indian establishment in New Delhi as well.

Thousands of Indian citizens participate in these rallies while the gatherings are attended by only a handful of Madhesi leaders, who tell the mass that they are oppressed by the Nepali authorities.

Mahadev Sah, a central member of Tarai-Madhes Sadbhavana Party, has participated in at least three rallies convened in Jaynagar, Laukaha and Ladniya.

He said RJD leaders Mangani Lal Mandal, Raghubangsha Prasad Singh, Devendra Yadav and Pappu Yadav are in the forefront of these campaigns.

These Indian leaders have planned to convene such assemblies in 54 bordering Indian towns.

According to Sah, they have also planned to hold an event in Patna of Bihar and to invite top Madhesi leaders to address the rally.

Holding a program in New Delhi to press the Indian government is also on cards.

Sah also said that the Indian leaders leading the campaign have been urging the Madhesh-based leaders to stand united and give continuity to the agitation.
