Nepal Madhesh Foundation (NMF) has started collecting recommendations from rights workers, professors, politicians, women and others from Morang, Sunsari and Saptari over the reports.[break]
“The discussion has started at a time when people feel that the constitution will not be framed by May 28. The debate has also been organized to give the message that the constitution will be written,” NMF president Tulanarayan Sah, said.
Commenting on the state reconstruction report, Professor Krishna Khanal said that the issue of reconstruction of the state has been brushed under the carpet as parties only want to promote their selfish interests. “The parties have to be serious in that all achievements so far will go to waste,” he said.
The state restructuring report was criticized by the participants who termed it unscientific and said it has been brought about without proper homework.
“Although separate province has been proposed for Mithila, Bhojpur and Koch, it is treacherous to give autonomy to Kochila,” said advocate Ram Kumar Sah. He added, “It is wrong to have four names of a single province. The report has also carelessly distributed autonomous rights.”
The participants also objected to the report for disproportionate delineation of the country on geographical and population basis. “While the population of Mithila-Bhojpur-Koch province is over 7.7 million, Sherpa and Jadan province do not have the population of 100, 000,” academician Sanjeev Mishra said.
Even on the report on fundamental rights, the participants said negligence has been done. They warned the three major parties of protest from Tarai if the new constitution did not respect their aspirations.
