Death toll from Tuesday aftershock reaches 65

Kathmandu, May 13: Death toll from the powerful aftershock that struck the country on Tuesday afternoon has reached 65.

As many as 1,926 people have sustained injuries in the May 12 tremor, according to Home Ministry's National Emergency Operation Centre. 



The death toll is likely to rise since the search and rescue operation is continue in the quake most-hit districts including Dolakha, Sindhupalchowk and Rasuwa.


Earlier, the April 25 devastating earthquake has killed 8,151 people in different districts, the Centre said.



Dolakha death toll reaches 36; over 100 injured
Meanwhile, the death toll from the powerful aftershock that rocked the country on Tuesday has reached 36 with more than 100 left injured.
According to Rasuwa Chief District Officer Prem Lal Adhikari, the Tuesday aftershocks have completely damaged the houses in Dolakha which were spared from earlier 7.8 magnitude earthquake.

Death toll counts 11 in Sindhupalchowk


Some 11 people have lost their lives to May 12 powerful aftershock in Sindhupalchowk while the score of injured has crossed 100. 


According to Sindhupalchowk Chief District Officer Gopal Prasad Parajuli, the April 25 earthquake and subsequent aftershocks had affected all VDCs including headquarters of the district and the Tuesday tremor has devastated the houses that remained unaffected from earlier trembler.



Total death toll from April 25 earthquake and May 12 aftershock has reached 3,224 in Sindhupalchowk district alone.



Rasuwa sees massive landslide
The Tuesday aftershock has triggered massive landslides in different areas of Rasuwa. 


According to Chief District Officer Uddhav Prasad Bhattarai, no human casualty has been reported so far despite large scale of landslide hitting Gosainkunda, Syafrubesi, Haku and Mailung of the district.


The April 25 earthquake had claimed 564 lives in Rasuwa and the death toll may go up as the search and rescue operation is still underway in Rasuwagadhi, Langtang and Mailung.

NA making rescue operation further effective 


The Nepal Army which has been consistently taking charge of search, rescue, relief and rubble removal bid after the April 25 quake has engrossed its strengths effectively in the affected sites after the powerful tremor that struck the country on Tuesday.



The NA source said that it has quickly mobilized army force for the protection of life and property as per the Disaster Management Work Procedure in the aftermath of May 12 tremor that has also caused human and physical loss in different parts of the country. RSS
