The kids then began to voice their protest against the continuing strikes in the district led by Tharuhat Joint Struggle Committee since August 12, which has been hampering their education.The students were holding placards with slogans that stressed their right to education. Later, they took out a rally in the market area along with their parents.
A total of 24,000 students of 37 public and 55 private schools in Deukhuri have been affected by the strikes.
Nisha Pokharel, a grade 10 students, said, "I went to the school but the classes weren't held. We are being deprived of our basic rights."
Earlier, after an understanding among all parties involved in the current disputes to keep educational institutes open, classes were allowed to take place from September 13.
However, only after a week, students of Deukhuri area were forced to return home from their schools without attending their classes today morning. Schools and colleges were shut down by protesters who have been opposing the passing of the new constitution.
Anurag Gupta, a fourth-grader, said, "I have started forgetting what I had learnt. I want our classes to resume as soon as possible."
Meanwhile, Tharuhat Joint Struggle Committee has decided to intensify the strike until its demands are met. The strikers have already barred shops and means of transportation from operating. On Tuesday, A bus (Lu 1 kha 9322) on the way to Tikapur from Banepa was set afire in Majgaun of Deukhuri area. In another incident, protestors burned a bus and a motor-bike in ward 3 of Lamahi municipality.
