"I have called a meeting of the High Level Political Committee (HLPC) for Sunday. The issue of holding roundtable meeting will be discussed there,” Dahal, who also heads HLPC at present, announced at a function organized by his party´s youth wing Young Communist League in the district.
He said several rounds of informal talks have been held with the CPN-Maoist´s chief Mohan Baidya to convince the latter to join the election process. “I have sent him two letters formally,” he said. [break]
He said that it was unfortunate that even Baidya´s party joined hands with the royalists. “Poll boycott will cost them dearly. We know their [Baidya-led Maoists] strength very well because we worked together for 30 years,” he said.
Dahal said that it was very bad to see CPN-Maoist leaders staging mock poll disruption. “This is a mockery of the people who lost their lives while fighting for the cause of CA,” he said. He said the anti-election campaign launched by Baidya´s party “disregards the contribution of thousands of people who sacrificed their lives for the cause of CA.”
He urged YCL cadres to prepare themselves to foil the CPN-Maoist´s plan to disrupt elections. “If Baidya´s party deploys 10 cadres at a polling booth, there should be at least 1,000 YCL members. The elections must be held at any cost,” Dahal said at the gathering.
Vowing not to repeat the mistakes committed in the past CA, Dahal said, “The previous CA could have produced a new constitution had we begun the practice of putting decisions to vote. We have learnt a lesson from the past,” he explained.
He said the leaders at a recent HLPC meeting have vowed to produce a new constitution within a year after holding the new CA polls. “We will put the disputed provisions to vote if we fail to prepare a draft of the new constitution within five months after the CA election,” he said.
