Gajendra Bahadur Shahi, coordinator of the committee claimed that the event was organized to celebrate the promulgation of the new 'people's constitution', which he claimed stood as the symbol of unity and prosperity among the Nepalis."We Nepalis have been waiting impatiently for this moment for over a decade. And today this wait came to end with the delivery of the new progressive constitution that is drafted on the basis of the people's aspirations. This is a moment for every Nepali to be proud," said Shahi.
The mega candle was lit up by Parwati Khadka, a senior citizen from Amargadi Municipality. Lightening up the candle Parwati congratulated for the promulgation of the new constitution and expressed optimism that the new constitution will lighten up the lives of people like the light of the candle.
Shahi informed that it had taken three days to prepare the candle and that the raw materials required for it were brought from Tarai districts as a sign of brotherhood with Tarai districts.
Elaborating on the symbolism behind the candle, Shahi said the weight of the candle represented all districts of the country. "The candle's weight 75 kilogram represents all the districts of the country and its light symbolizes the unity and integrity among the residents of these districts and optimism of cooperation and development," said Shahi.
Yuwa Sangh Nepal also organized special program at the district headquarters by lightening up candles and drawing a colorful map of the country with seven provinces.
