The tournament is scheduled to be held in Malaysia from September 1-10. [break]
Along with Nepal, host Malaysia, Denmark, Singapore, Tanzania and USA are competing in Division 4. Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) General Secretary Ashok Nath Pyakurel informed that some members of the squad will join the team in Sri Lanka.
Currently three top order batsmen -- Anil Mandal, Sharad Vesawakar and Gyanendra Malla -- are undergoing special batting training in Bangalore, India. Other members including Prithu Baskota, Pradeep Airee, Subash Khakurel and Rahul BK are currently playing U-19 World Cup in Australia. Coach Pubudu Dassanayake will also join the team in Sri Lanka. Dassanayake is also in Australia with the U-19 team.
Pyakurel added that the team will do net practice, training and play friendly matches with the local clubs. The team will be trained in Colombo from August 18-31.
During the farewell program, NSC Member Secretary Lama urged the players to give their best and raise the country´s status.
Skipper Paras Khadka said that the team is ready to climb to the upper division. “There are good teams in the tournament and it will be tough but we are in good condition and hope to climb to the upper division.”
Khadka further added Nepal was one of the contenders of the tournament. “This is the last opportunity for Nepal to qualify for the World Cup and the players are ready to give their best,” he said, adding, “We are prepared for the tournament and the special training the batsmen will get will help them.”
Khadka said that team was looking for win as Nepali senior team has not won any major tournament outside the country.
