Country may get budget by Oct 23

KATHMANDU, Sept 30: The country may get this fiscal year´s budget by Oct. 23 if the major political parties become serious enough about the looming economic crisis.



A meeting between top leaders of political parties called by Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal held out this hope. [break]



UML leader Bharat Mohan Adhikari said that the new budget should be introduced within the first week of Kartik. He said that there was no alternative to forging political consensus on bringing budget to end the looming economic crisis in the country. The Prime Minister had called the meeting to inform about the present economic condition of the country.



Chairman of Unified CPN (Maoist) Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Maoist leaders Dr. Baburam Bhattarai and Narayan Kaji Shrestha, General Secretary of Nepali Congress Prakash Man Singh, General Secretary of CPN-UML Ishwor Pokharel and representative of Madhesi People’s Rights Forum (Democratic) Tilak Rawal attended the meeting.



On the occasion, Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank Dr. Yuvaraj Khatiwada, Secretary of Finance Ministry Rameshwor Khanal and Revenue Secretary Krishna Hari Baskota informed about the present economic condition of the country.



The Governor and the Secretary duo told that the country will face a big economic crisis if budget was not brought within the first week of Kartik, said Prime Minister´s Foreign Affair Advisor Rajan Bhattarai.



After the meeting, Maoist leader Shrestha said that his party can think about bringing budget after the end of the present political deadlock.
